Winemaking in Alsace...
Born in Alsace, I became a winemaker as a result of passion - as opposed to family background. I apprenticed with a number of the world's foremost winemakers for several years before introducing his own wines. Upon returning to Alsace, I pursued a single goal: to produce wines with voluptuous fruit that reflect his passion. The cellars are located in the center of the Golden Crown vineyard - a unique geological area offering a variety of soils, including clay, limestone and sandstone. Each different terroir brings an added dimension to his wine. The « Tradition » range Focused on the fruit, the tradition range offers a wide range of the 5 main grape varieties in Alsace. Each wines comes from specific vineyards, selected for the soil, exposition but also the age of the vines. The winemaking process is as natural as possible. The grapes go directly to the pneumatic press by gravity.. After 48 hours of natural settling, the juice goes to stainless still tank where the fermentation temperatures are controlled. The « Les 5 Pierres » range Terroir wines, exclusively come from old vines, mostly in Grand Cru. I only make 2 wines: Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Low yield, hand picking and natural fermentation give birth to elegant, complex and intense wines. As a result of this selection, the volume available on those wines is very limited. |
